How does Wegovy work?

Wegovy is made of semaglutide, which is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Semaglutide mimics the GLP-1 hormone in the body and does the following:

Releases insulin

The GLP-1 hormone signals the pancreas to release insulin when blood sugar levels rise. This moves sugar into the cells to generate energy.

Slows digestion

The hormone slows down the pace of food movement through the stomach. This results in feeling fuller for longer after eating.

Reduces sugar production in the liver
